The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) provides financial awards to victims of crimes of violence. The scheme allows awards to be made :
- to recognise physical and mental injuries caused by a violent crime
- in certain circumstances, to compensate for past or future lost earnings or expenses caused by a violent crime, and
- for death of a close relative as a result of a violent crime including, in some cases, compensation for the lost earnings of the person who was killed .
Criminal injuries compensation can be awarded even where the offender is not identified, charged by the police or successfully prosecuted.
Our Solicitors have successfully recovered compensation for clients’ that have suffered injury as a result of violent crime. However, legal costs incurred in making the claim can not be recovered from the CICA and therefore we would enter into an agreement that our costs would be paid out of compensation awarded to you by the CICA. The amount of our costs will not exceed 25% of compensation awarded and therefore in every case our clients’ receive a minimum of 75% of the compensation awarded by the CICA.
